So, it's a week and a half into the new school year. I am teaching great subjects this year - psychology, sociology, and comparative religion. It's the first time in years that I haven't had any economics and government courses. my classes are rather larger than I'd like, but the kids seem to be very interested in the subject matter. I've assigned a lot of work so far, and grading it has revealed that most of them are understanding the material pretty well.  the first test is on Friday, so that should tell.

On the downside, I never got to take a road trip this summer. I spent the entire summer going to doctor visits and having all kinds of tests run. Yuck. I just want to get out with my camera and take some shots! I'm hoping for a new prime lens for my birthday later in the month. Cannon has just reduced the prices on most of their lenses, which is great news!

School is OUT!

The past few weeks have been crazy-busy with trying to get my seniors graduating (on this coming Tuesday).  Two weeks ago, I had quite a few that had a great deal of missing work.  Surprise, surprise - they were actually able to knuckle down, do the work, and get it in to me.  This week has been final exams.  I was very pleased that the vast majority of students did a very credible job remembering all that they'd been taught since January.

I'm hoping to take a car trip in a couple of weeks.  This week I still have school stuff to do, and next week I have medical appointments.  Then I'm free!  We are planning a road/photography trip over the summer.  I'm leaning towards Telluride and Silverton Colorado.  I've never been to the Rockies.  I hope everything works out so that we can go for a couple of weeks.

New Camera Ordered!

I'm a little excited.  It should arrive on Tuesday.  I'm upgrading from my Canon 8 MP to a Cannon 18 MP.  There was a package deal being offered with several lenses, tripod, camera bag, and lots of other accessories that was only slightly more expensive than just the camera body by itself.  Now I can let my husband have the old camera for his work stuff - he takes snaps of kitchens and so forth that he's redesigning.  The greater resolution should make better stock :D

So, one of the best things about teaching - having an entire week off for Thanksgiving.  After 13 weeks of school, both the teachers and the students are ready for a little down time.  This week will be devoted to rest, relaxation, family, and art.  I received my calendars last week that I'm giving as Christmas presents.  It's nice that one can put together artwork from over the year, add special dates like birthdays and anniversaries, and have them printed up for a reasonable price.

So, the U.S. Open is over.  Yeah Nadal!  Yeah Serena!
The first three weeks of the semester have been pretty good.  I'm liking my students so far.  Pretty good bunch of students.  This semester, I have government, sociology, and comparative religions.  Really fun classes.  My students are mostly engaged - a huge positive.

So, I'm glued to the television, rooting for Andy Murray to win.  He took the first set, which is a good sign.

The big project is setting up my office/studio.  Yesterday, I had some guys pick up a bunch of furniture from in there.  Today, I'm reorganizing and clearing out junk so that all I'll have in there is my desk, a bookcase, and space!  Then, I will be able to set up my backdrop, lights and reflectors, and get situated for shooting.  WooHoo!  I can also set up my lightbox for small stuff.  That way I'll be able to make more stock.

Well, all but two members of the senior class graduated on Wednesday.  A few of them had to resort to "extraordinary means" to do so - accelerated credit retrieval programs.  If they had just done the work during the semester, they wouldn't have been sweating it out at the end.  Procrastination doesn't pay.  I have all-day workshops to attend this week, and then summer should officially begin.  At some point, I will need to attend training for a new course I'm to teach in the fall.  Basically training on the law - what I can and cannot present in Comparative Religion.  Should be a good compliment to my Sociology course.

One more week of school!  Finals this week through Thursday and then Friday is a work day for teachers.  I will miss some of my students - others, not so much.  We have reviewed like mad all this past week, so I hope that they do well on the exams.

Spent last weekend in the hospital for my migraines.  So very boring to be cooped up for three or four days.  At least I took my laptop and was able to watch some sci-fi dvds to pass the time.  Keeping my fingers crossed about the long-term efficacy of the treatment.

Is it just me, or is anyone else bothered by so-called nudes focused exclusively on genitalia?  No faces, no full body, no artful pose, just a camera phone picture of someone's penis?  Puleeze.  So, you want to be an exhibitionist, but you don't want to get arrested for flashing?  Do it someplace else!  The human body is a beautiful thing, why focus on one small aspect?  Is that all you're proud of?  And my, aren't you proud of that!

This week is semester exams.  Too many of my students are not passing at the moment.  They just are too lazy to turn in a minimum amount of work.  The principal has been calling them into the office for a chat.  For some of them, it's lighting a fire under them.  For others, not so much.  I do as much as I can to ensure that students understand the material and pass the course.  They do have to do their part too.

Christmas Shopping - Online!

I've decided to try and do 90% of my shopping online this year.  The very thought of stores and *shudder* malls this time of year is repugnant.  I've got a couple of my giftees taken care of, now for the rest!  My youngest daughter's hobby/side business is cakes and she wanted an edible printer for doing detailed overlays for the cakes that just don't work so well with stencils and airbrushing.  One granddaughter is completely into Monster High dolls, so that was easy too.  Now, a couple of sons-in-law, a couple of grandsons, two more daughters...oh my, the list just keeps getting longer!
