I wasn't going to say anything, because I hate to be that person going around correcting people. But I saw that the photographer has posted another photo of the same animal, calling it a fallow deer. Sika deer, fallow deer... for the sake of educating people about exotic animals, it's an axis deer. Just trying to be helpful. As far as exotics go, axis deer are fairly abundant in Texas, where this photo was taken.

I have edited the title to reflect axis deer. I was misinformed first that it was fallow (same photo, just changed the title), then I was told it was a sika but now I'm reasonably certain it's an axis.

Cool. :) It's easy to confuse axis and fallow deer since both have those striking spotted coats in adulthood.

Hello little deer. Would you like to come live on my farm? I have dragon carrots, radishes & peas you can nibble. And soft patches of grass.

(Oh mah gawd, thank you for this stock picture. I think I'll just put this as my desktop for the week & dream about having my own herd of mini deer.)

Axis deer are very small, standing about three feet tall at that shoulder

Very nice photo. He looks curious yet sleepy.

That's a sika? It rather looks like a Chital, instead.

This is a wonderful photo. So often we see deer fro the side, this is a nice front shot, really hels in seeing how the antlers sit, and the interesting fee of this deer. Congrats on the DD!
